About the event

Creation Encounter and Cedar Creek Learning Farm in Hood River, Oregon are thrilled to announce this special overnight event for older kids, ages 8 to 15, and their adult(s). We will enjoy “hands-on” experiments, crafts, and other fun activities. Our goal is to see Jesus all around us in the tangible and every day; and learn how the biblical answers all point to an incredibly wise and loving Creator.

This camp’s subject will be the genius of ancient man and their amazing survival skills. We'll teach fire safety, making a campfire, and learning the importance of fire for our habitats. Practice throwing an atlatl! Learn of the evidence for Ice Age Man and Ice Age animals right here in Oregon. Try your hand at sling crafting with leather and jute. Discuss ancient art and history from around the world and see how they support Biblical history.

For those who choose to camp out, there will be opportunity to share stories and songs around the campfire and learn how to use a high powered telescope. [See end for more information]. The weekend of Aug 3rd will be near the height of the Perseid meteor shower, so we expect to see a lively moonless sky. Enjoy sleeping under the stars at a private grassy campsite with new friends. The morning of the 4th, campers wake up to a hearty breakfast buffet on the deck of the main house.

Meet at Cedar Creek Learning Farm at 9:00 am. Each student will receive an illustrated field notebook with a journal part for sketching and answering pertinent questions. We will review these together. Dress for the weather; bring a family day pack with extra clothes and shoes that might get a bit dirty and wet, lunch and a snack and water for each of you (though water and bathrooms are available on site). We will email a complete “bring list” and a daily schedule soon after your registration. Register online below; cost per person for this 2 day unique learning adventure is $120 each. We want these experiences to be accessible for all kids. Scholarships may be available in certain instances. Please contact our leadership for further information.

More information on Ancient Man Camp out:

For this event it is important for each child to have their Mom and/or Dad or a responsible adult with them and camp with them overnight. There will be two porta potties in the camping area plus a small bathroom with a shower available. We plan to take a clean up and dinner break between 4:00 and 7:00 PM. Bring an easy dinner with you, or we can recommend nearby restaurants and stores. Of course, getting a nearby motel room is an option, but we hope an enjoyable camping experience will be a valuable part. A suggested day pack and overnight camping “bring list” will emailed to you upon registration.

We'll learn other interesting things about ancient man's shelters and ways of fishing and hunting the giant Ice Age animals. Learn how they used fire and smoke with wisdom and skill. We will identify several edible plants in Oregon and share how a “modern-day survival kit” can sustain you in an emergency situation.
