About the event

Dr Keith Swenson, Adjunct Professor of Natural Sciences at Multnomah University, will lead this trip. The Salmon River Trail in the Mt. Hood National Forest is an ideal location in which to experence and enjoy Oregon's westside coniferous forest. Participants will observe old-growth forest as well as sites that have been clear-cut logged. They will learn to core trees and measure their height, net aquatic organisms in the Salmon River, observe insects and other forest critters, and identify the major forest plants. Discussion topics will include evidences for design in the forest ecosystem and biblical stewardship of forest resources. Participants must be in good physical condition, able to hike 3-4 miles on somewhat rough trails and cross a small stream by climbing over log jam. A forest day pass is required for each vehicle and may be purchased for $5 at the ranger station.
