Time & Location
About the Event
This event has been canceled and/or postponed until further notice; see our event status page.
A favorite among school groups, this tour to John Day Fossil Beds is now being offered as a three-night, four-day family camp. Rich fossil deposits and fascinating geology and scenery make the John Day area an excellent outdoor classroom. Ponder the powerful evidences for the Genesis Flood in the John Day Area. On a few short hikes we will find and collect fossils and discuss the environment that created them. Wade the river and study Indian pictographs in Picture Gorge, study the stars, visit and discuss what's up and what's down at Thomas Condon Visitor Center. We will still have plenty of time for relaxing and having fun around the campfire.
Our base camp will be the pleasant Fish House Inn RV & Campground, 110 Franklin in Dayville, OR. We will meet Thursday afternoon, June 25 at the Inn where you can choose your tent campsite on the shady lawn or settle into your room. Don't make your own reservation. John will make our group reservation on April 1, but you will personally pay the new proprietors upon arrival for your three night's stay. Check their website, www.fishhouseinn.com, for lodging options and their pricing. Then email John@creationencounter.com with your choice of lodging options.
Since our reservations must be made by John on April 1, please register for this event by March 15. The suggested donation for this is family adventure is $195 for families or $100 for individuals. This includes all guiding and instruction and each family will receive a copy of the book Road Guide to the John Day Area, authored by your guides, and a 15-page Journal/Fieldbook with illustrations, charts, questions, places for drawings and fun things for the kids. Spaces are limited so please register soon.
